RTFP Closes Down

RTFP came to an end on 31st October 2009 having achieved significant successes. A follow-on programme to be called TradeMark Southern Africa will begin shortly and will continue RTFP's good work.

Beit Bridge Border under the spotlight

Over 70 representatives of South African and Zimbabwe Ministries; border agencies; freight forwarders; road transporters etc met at Beit Bridge on 22nd May to consider ways in which the Border could be improved. One immediate result has been the re-opening of the old bridge as a second crossing over the river.

Date for Chirundu One Stop Border Post Agreed

Following a joint inspection of the Chirundu border between Zambia and Zimbabwe on 29 May by Ministers of both countries, 1st September 2009 has been agreed as the date of the opening of the first functioning One Stop Border Post in southern Africa.

Trade routes across Southern and East Africa could soon be transformed by an ambitious transport initiative launched by three of Africa’s main Regional Economic Communities (RECs) the Common Market for Eastern and Southern African (COMESA) the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), under the COMESA-EAC_SADC tripartite arrangement, in the British government’s Department of International Development (DFID).
